Video content on the web: what is coming down the track

What lies between media companies and video hosting sites online ? Some call it The Content Wars - when Viacom hits YouTube with a $1bn lawsuit... Let us look at this from a more positive perspective of rule changers such as Joost, Babelgum, Eyeka is also part of the game, on the mobile side. Here is an interesting wiki about video content players http://www.gugelproductions.de/wiki/
Enjoy !

Yes, I wrote also about that on my own blog a few weeks ago (keyword for search: youtube, myspace) - everything started near one year ago, when someone checked the UTube agreement between user and UTube and relationship between next users of the published materials by that user and that materials.

UTube made a mistake in law, simple the same as Macromedia (with palettes in Fireworks the same as in Adobe Photoshop)... Consequences U know now - no Macromedia, Adobe has everything only for one dollar... but I hope UTube will survive that war, cos I need that platform for my blog ;)

Hi Mareksy, Thank you for the comment. I see that I missed the chance to be clear in my post (or did you only read the first few words ? Probably a combination of both ;D)
My point was not about legal wars but about the explosion of video available for U (“U” for user!). The traditional value chain in video and movie distribution is based on a number of companies dedicated to production, post-production, distribution via selected channels. Now these very same companies aim to embrace the value chain from end to end. Media companies and producers are exploring the D2C model (direct to consumer), adding their model to video hosting sites and IPTV players, not to mention the telcos, hey, they also want to be part of the entertainment world! Most, if not all telcos have programming offers and even produce content. But all this is good for U! It means a variety of content (lots of crap, too...) a variety of providers and an extremely interesting role for the user. Take care.

Probably we still dont understand each other ;) cos my bad english and UR good polish ;) whatever!
TNX U for UR answer. I have the same point of view as U.
But my point of view is little colder than U - for example:

we have now 2 HD platforms via sat in my country - everyone of them has 3 HD programs only and not per 24h av. One of them has VOD offer - only 10 movies per month for choice.
For what I said that? VOD, as well pay tv or sat before was (in advertising) something like D2C model but not in true world.
The companies served only what they want to serve, but for that offer change package now: now we have something tailored for U? Dont true?
This a stupid circle, because the managers of the almost all media companies have a problem - shareholders and law, so they must make money for that guys. Jumping into risk-business (such as new technologies always R), isnt for that guys easy, and that guys have second problem with finding on self in new times we have now.

All what I observe is trying to push new times into the shape of old time - known them better. This kind of VOD, stupid offers for media via net etc. - all of that is only placebo. So, many of that production is crap, as U wrote, but the question is, how many of the rest is usable for "Me" (and "U")? Designed for me, not designed for replacement my money to accounts of that companies? as U see, the quantity isnt nothing more than... quantity - of course is better have bigger offer, but large of the offer isnt synonismus for quality and usability :(

So, I think also, if the major companies start to change "from end to end" as U wrote, for sure is to late for them. From the university's time and from my practice - big business need time to recognize problem and after that need procedures, procedures and... procedures to move an internal change for the start. But competition dont sleep :)

I think the complementary offer today have kids with laptop, video camera and dynamite heads of course. Please check out UTube full of new time's model guerilla! :)

So, who cares about dinosauruses ;)

Cheers
M

I hope - now we undesrtood better each other - if not - next time I will speak polish ;)
